5 Reasons 2:Smile!
Updated: Sep 25, 2019
Warning. Smiling is good for your health!
1: It’s good for your health.
Our facial expressions not only communicate our mood they can also influence our mood too! The mere act of smiling activates neural messaging in your brain that lifts your mood, lowers stress hormones, reduces blood pressure, increases endurance levels, boosts your immune system and may even prolong your life.
It’s a fact - And there is science to prove it! Just through smiling, our body releases cortisol and endorphins that provide all of these benefits and more.
2: It makes you happy.
Smiling literally tricks your brain into happiness. You know how you feel when you are surrounded by good friends, sharing stories and jokes, all cracking up and rolling around belly laughing. Just how alive and revived you feel. That’s not just being around your friends. That’s an actual physical reaction from your body creating seratonin and dopamine, our natural happy drugs.
And even more good news. Whether you know you are smiling or not, and even a fake smile has benefits! It is the simple act of smiling – the actual facial movements – that bring on these chemicals.
Fake it ‘til you make it might be the answer here. If you feel like you don’t have any reason to smile, try it anyway. What have you got to lose?
3: A smile is the prettiest thing you can wear.
It’s true – it doesn’t matter how fabulous you look. If you have a scowl or a frown on your face you become instantly less attractive than someone with a smile. Smiling makes us more attractive to others and attracts more smiles into your life. People are naturally drawn to smilers! Well why wouldn’t you be? We all want to be happy don’t we? And that won’t happen if we surround ourselves with people that are negative or miserable all the time.
Who doesn’t want to be around people with a positive mindset and a big smile. Use that wonderful smile of yours to attract positive people into your life. I promise you, you will smile a lot more.
4: Smile is contagious.
It’s true! Smiling, just like yawning is contagious. By smiling you are taking control of how others will perceive you - nice, kind, trustworthy – all proven psychological responses to people that smile. Smiling can subconsciously change the mood of everyone that you come into contact with.
Although a smile usually happens in response to something that brings you joy, it can also be a completely unconscious act that happens as a response to someone smiling at us!
Us humans have what are known as mirror neurons in our brains (premotor cortex and inferior parietal cortex). These mirror neurons are activated when those around us use certain facial expressions or body movements and in turn cause us to mimic those actions.
So it really is true – Smile and the world does smile back at you.
5: Smiles are free.
Smiling costs us nothing. We can give 1000’s of smiles away a day and it will cost us nothing. Yet it will bring us a multitude of health benefits, it will attract happier people into our life and will make the world a better place.
You never know if we all smile more we might just start a smile revolution.
If those aren’t 5 reasons 2 smile I don’t know what is?
